Chief Keef has recently come from pretty much nothing to one of the youngest record label (GBE/300) owners to come out, frankly ever. But every story has a beginning. On one hand you see his current success with features from HUGE starts Like 50 Cent and Wiz Khaflia, and even Southern Legend Gucci Mane. But it wasn’t always “double cups and turkey bags”. The other hand you have a troubled youth born in 1995 acting out and surviving the only way he knows how in Chicago, so lets take you to where it all started:
Keith Cozart was born August 15th 1995 in Chicago, Illinois and grew up in the Englewood area (Known as Southside Chiraq). He attended school in the South Side of the city in the same area.
Chief Keef resides with his grandmother in the southside of Chicago since a young age, and what people don’t realize is that he has have the same youtube account putting out music videos and mixtapes since he was younger. After about two successful mixtapes he has the support of the entire Public School System at the time. Which was HUGE and how he really started to gain traction. Afterwords his popular song “I Don’t Like” blew up due to a grimy picture painted in a music video of keef’s grandmothers home which soon got the attention of Kayne West. Which soon after received HUGE attention including a remix featuing jadakiss, big sean, and kayne west!
On December 4, 2011, at age 16, Keef was shot at by police and arrested for unlawful use of a weapon and subsequently placed under house arrest, at his grandmother’s house, for a month. On the day he was released, the world outside of Chicago got their first taste of Keef’s presence: a viral video called “It’s Something Wrong With This Lil Boy: Freaks Out When He Finds Out His Favorite Rapper ‘Chief Keef’ Gets Out of Jail.’”
Now, with the spotlight on Chief Keef He hit the internet running release songs, and music videos left and right. Even with producer Young Chop Stating he was ‘Mad as Hell’ for Kayne Remixing the song with out asking his permission due to him making the beat. But the still managed to come through it and all of them secured a deal through Glory Boyz ENT / Interscope later in the year make Chief Keef one of the youngest CEO in the music industry.
